​Who is qualified to vote by mail?

-Any qualified elector of the State of Illinois who is properly registered to vote may apply for a vote by mail ballot.​​

In addition, the following unregistered voters are eligible to vote by mail ballot:

  1. Members of the Armed Forces or Merchant Marine and their spouses and dependents whether serving in the United States or abroad;
  2. U.S. citizens and their spouses or dependents, whose permanent residence is in Kane County but who will be temporarily residing abroad on election day;
  3. U.S. citizens (not their spouses or dependents) who maintained a residence in Kane County immediately prior to their departure from the United States.

How to Obtain a Vote by Mail Ballot

By Mail​

*Ballots will not be sent until Thursd​​​ay, September 26​, ​2024

You may request a vote by mail ballot to be mailed to you. The last day we can mail you a ballot is 5 days prior to the election.​

The ballot needs to be postmarked by election day and must be in our office within two weeks after the election.

Please note that if you will be out of the country for the election, you must complete and return an FPCA form.

ELECTION MAIL CANNOT BE FORWARDED

*Persons who have registered by mail without providing identification and will be voting for the first time are not eligible to vote by mail. They will have to vote early.​​


 

If you have requested a Vote By Mail Ballot, but have changed your mind (you wish to vote EARLY in person) you have the following options:

1.   If you have requested a Vote By Mail ballot and you receive it, but decide to vote in person… You can WRITE “SPOILED" on your ballot and bring it to an EARLY VOTING site. You must surrender the ballot to the judges, sign the required affidavit, then you can vote using election equipment.​

2.   If you have requested a Vote By Mail ballot -and have NOT YET received it- and you go to an EARLY VOTING site…the election judges will call our office and the Election Department will CANCEL YOUR BALLOT in the system. Once you sign the required affidavit, you can vote using election equipment at EARLY VOTING site.


If you have requested a Vote By Mail Ballot, but have changed your mind (you wish to vote ON ELECTION DAY in person) you have the following options:

​1.   If you have requested a Vote By Mail ballot and you receive it, but decide to vote in person… You can WRITE “SPOILED" on your ballot and bring it to your Polling Place. You must surrender the ballot to the judges, sign the required affidavit, then you can vote using election equipment.

2.   If you have requested a Vote By Mail ballot -and have NOT YET received it- and you go to your Polling Place …the election judges will call our office and the Election Department will CANCEL YOUR BALLOT in the system. Once you sign the required affidavit, you can vote using election equipment at your Polling Place.

​Incapacitated Voters*

Illinois State Statute requires voters who are incapacitated to complete an Application for Vote by Mail Voter's 5 Year Identification Card form* along with an Affidavit of Attending Physician* in order to automatically be sent an Vote by Mail ballot application for incapacitated voter for every election within 5 years after we receive the application. Military/Overseas Voters*

Members of the Uniformed Services and their family members or U.S. citizens residing overseas whose last known address is in Kane County and wish to vote by mail may do so by completing and mailing an FPCA (Federal Post Card Application)* to Kane County Clerk's Office, 719 S Batavia Ave, Bldg B, Geneva, IL 60134. By completing this application, you will receive a vote by mail ballot for every election for the current calendar year.

Nursing Home Voting

The Kane County Clerk’s Office provides election judges to conduct in person voting to (registered) residents who wish to vote at the licensed or certified Illinois Nursing Homes.
